Clenched fist injury. A 21- year-old man presented with a cut (laceration) and swelling of the back of his right hand. The laceration had occurred approximately 12 hours following the patient's having hit an opponent in the mouth. The rapid onset of swelling and redness are suggestive of Eikenella corrodens (a type of bacterial infection) as the causative organism. In this picture, the erythema (redness)is more clearly demonstrated and the remains of a bar's stamp can be seen across the back of the hand. (L.S.)
