Erysipelas (strept
infection of face): A 72-year-old man presented with fever and a right facial
rash that was sharply demarcated, raised, deeply red, indurated, and painful.
These findings indicate a classic picture of erysipelas. Group A beta hemolytic
and group G Streptococcus are the most commonly implicated organisms. The
infection is usually associated with a break in the skin. (L.S.)
