Elbow fracture (Radial head fracture): A 35-year-old woman presented with right elbow pain after having fallen on an outstretched hand. She experienced pain on turning her wrist over and back. The lateral x-ray of the elbow demonstrates a large black area in the soft tissue behind the bones of the elbow (posterior fat pad sign) that represents a large amount of swelling. This finding is suggestive of a radial head fracture in an adult, even though the physician may not see the actual fracture on x-ray. (L.S.)
